Usana Health Sciences Inc, This is the Bottom Line



Usana Health Sciences Inc. (USNA) is a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq. Usana is a mature network marketing company and has been in business since 1992 and was founded by a microbiologist, Dr. Myron W. Wentz. Usana is fairly established with a solid balance sheet and stable but slow growth and annual sales of about $430 million.


Usana has a wide array of products that center around healthy living. You can get vitamins and nutritionals for adults and children as well as skin care, soap, shampoo, weight loss, toothpaste and more. The products are of good quality and the company has done a fair amount of research towards developing new products to enhance their extensive product line.


One of the company’s top selling products is their HealthPak. It is $132 for 336 pills, Packaged for use AM and PM and is a 4 week supply. Do the math and that is 12 pills a day and that is way too many pills for me, but everyone can certainly choose for themselves.


Another of their most popular products is Chocolate Whey Nutrimeal which is a 230 calorie meal replacement shake with 15 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber. I can see why this would be one of their most popular products. People are getting fatter and the diet industry is growing faster than just about anything else, except maybe fast (or should I say “fat”) food. I think it is smart business to have some entries into the diet segment of the health and nutrition industry, and Usana has several product in that category.


When it comes to compensation Usana uses a form of a binary system (2 legs to build, right and left legs only) but you are allowed to expand to build wider, and deeper into your organization. The plan allows for some very large top end bonuses, so if you are a big builder and want to build for a while, you can make some big checks. Usana also operates on a 4 week rolling calendar so you will need to buy your auto ship 13 times a year and on varying dates, not a set time each month. This also means that you make money on the auto ship purchases of your entire down line 13 times a year instead of only 12 as with most other companies.


When you join you can pay $50 for the full Business Development System, or pay $20 for an electronic version. Then you must activate your pay position (called a Business Center) with a purchase of 150 points of volume (costs about $200 plus shipping). You will then get paid a set amount on matching volume depending on the volume you have on both sides of your Business Center (250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000) and can make up to $1,000 per week for each Business Center. You are allowed to have two additional Business Centers each time you max one out and can place it directly below you to take advantage of one leg already being built all you need to do is build  the other leg.


You can make $1,000 per week for each Business Center you have, so most of your money will come in the form of bonuses, and there are a lot of bonuses and you can make. There is a 3% Leadership Bonus (get a share of 3% of company sales), Matching Bonus (32 week match or personally enrolled bonuses), and Elite Bonus which pays the top 25 in the company.
